Welcome to the University of Winnipeg Judo Club
We have nothing to offer…but blood, pain, tears, and sweat.
“If you have a normal heart beat, Judo might not be for you. But if your heart beats with passion, you belong with us.” Sensei Shirin
Established as an intramural club, the University of Winnipeg acquired a Sensei to develop a program incorporating the three objectives of Judo, namely the self-defense, the martial art, and the sport. This encouraged the participation of an assortment of judoka from University students and outsiders alike. Comprising of fighters ranging in age from 9 to 69, the Club harbored a family environment with the old helping the young and the strong helping the weak. This unity matured into its own philosophy, becoming the club motto of “ONE HEART”.
With the focus on heart, the Club quickly developed into a force that could no longer be confined within the walls of the University as an intramural activity. The team participated in its first combatitive competition with stellar results. Since then, the Club represents in local, provincial, and national tournaments winning over 400 medals in the last five years.
The Club currently runs on Monday and Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings at the University of Winnipeg Duckworth Centre. Our judoka have the benefit of state-of-the-art instruction; including Dartfish® computer analysis. We have access to weight training, nutritional programs, athletic therapy, and special sessions for mental preparation.
We are trying to reach perfection, resolved in creating a new generation of fighting judoka with heart and passion, committed to achieving gold for our Country in Olympic and World Competitions.”
Fighting all year round, we invite you come by and participate in the art of Judo.
